Writer, Brand Advisor, Creative Lead
Sharoz Makarechi
I was born in Iran and immigrated to the US as a child, in the midst of the Islamic Revolution. My commitment to creating equity for all in my adopted home country is directly related to the bullying and discrimination I faced upon arrival. Some of it traumatic in ways that I’m only now coming to grips with and repurposing for good through my company, Plaid America.
By way of a quick professional backstory, I was working multiple design jobs while attending the School of Visual Arts, and won multiple internships at prominent advertising agencies where I honed my communication skills en route to full time and freelance positions at the best agencies in NYC building globally recognized brands. Leaning into my growing interest in storytelling and the genesis of brands, I founded a new hybrid model for a creative shop, Think Tank 3, which I operated successfully out of a storefront in the West Village, and later also in LA.
I have hosted important cultural events, art directed award winning feature films, and curated fine art exhibits to acclaim but at the core, I’m a writer, perpetually questioning the status quo.
